East Capital launches new Global Emerging Markets ex China fund – accessing the world’s growth stories

Against a backdrop of shifting global growth patterns, East Capital has launched the East Capital Global Emerging Markets ex China fund, a high-conviction strategy that invests in around 40 companies benefiting from structural growth across emerging markets, while intentionally excluding China. The fund is designed for investors seeking focused exposure to emerging markets through East Capital’s proven on-the-ground research and rigorous investment process.

Built on East Capital’s deep regional presence and long experience managing active emerging market strategies, the fund offers a way to capture long-term growth opportunities across diverse economies from India to Brazil, Indonesia to the UAE, while complementing separate allocations to China through dedicated strategies such as the East Capital China fund.

Developed in collaboration with sophisticated investors
The Global Emerging Markets ex China fund was shaped in close dialogue with several of East Capital’s most sophisticated investors. Their shared objective was clear: to access East Capital’s emerging markets expertise in a structure that provides added flexibility in portfolio construction.

“This fund was developed in response to investors who wanted to access our emerging markets approach while managing their China exposure separately. It’s a solution that balances conviction and flexibility, combining our regional insight with stock picking,” says Jacob Grapengiesser, Partner and Chief Investment Officer (CIO), East Capital.

Experienced regionally based team with local insights
The fund is managed by East Capital’s regional team, with an average tenure of 16 years at the firm and strong access to companies across Asia and other key markets. The strategy integrates macroeconomic and geopolitical perspectives while maintaining a country-neutral approach, allowing the team’s stock selection to drive returns.

“We are already seeing strong flows and great interest from investors who value our combination of local insight and proven approach,” says Nikodemus Dahlgren, Partner and Head of Sales, East Capital Group. “The fund was launched in early August and is off to a great start, up 12.9% with 2.6% alpha compared to the MSCI EM ex-China 10/40 index (in USD as of 11 November). This launch reflects how our investment expertise and close client relationships work together to create strategies that truly meet investors’ evolving needs.”

Building on a year of momentum
The introduction of East Capital Global Emerging Markets ex China marks East Capital Group’s second fund launch in 2025 following the debut of Espiria Sweden Small Cap earlier this year. Together they underscore the group’s commitment to expanding its range of specialised high-conviction investment strategies that help clients capture opportunities across the world’s most dynamic markets.

The fund is classified as an Article 9 fund under SFDR, meaning it has sustainability as an investment objective. As with all East Capital Group funds, ESG factors are fully integrated into the investment process.. It typically maintains a high active share above 70%, with a mid- and small-cap bias and focus on quality and valuation.
